Benjamin Becker beats Jeremy Chardy to move into Malaysian Open quarter-finals

Germany's Benjamin Becker upset sixth seed Jeremy Chardy to reach the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

Becker, ranked 74th, overcame a player 48 places higher, with a 5-7 6-1 7-5 victory on Centre Court.

There was also an early upset on Court One as German qualifier Mischa Zverev overcame America's Rajeev Ram in three sets to advance to the second round.

Ranked 248 in the world, Zverev took the first set 7/2 in the tie-break before losing the second 6-3.

But Zverev took the match after winning the third set 6-3 against an opponent currently ranked 93rd in the world.

Portugal's Joao Sousa progressed comfortably into the second round with a 6-2 6-2 win over Poland's Michal Przysiezny.
