South African Kevin Anderson was beaten in the second round of the inaugural Millennium Estoril Open in Portugal.

Second seed Anderson slipped to a 6-4 3-6 6-1 defeat to Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Victory earned Garcia-Lopez a quarter-final meeting with Borna Coric after the Croatian edged out home hope Rui Machado 6-4 5-7 6-1.

Gilles Muller, the eighth seed from Luxembourg, also booked his place in the last eight following a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (9/7) success over Spain's Albert Montanes.

His quarter-final opponent, Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta, had rather smoother progress thanks to a 6-1 6-2 victory over compatriot David Vega Hernandez.
