On a £50 budget
The Wimbledon grounds pass is a steal at £25. Centre Court, Court One and Court Two will be out of bounds, but that hardly matters in the first week when major stars play on the smaller outside courts. Soak up the atmosphere, take in the sights and watch world-class tennis. Bring a packed lunch to save on the cost of food. Each spectator is allowed to bring in a bottle of wine or champagne too, so feel free to bring one from home.

You'll have to queue in Wimbledon Park, almost certainly overnight, and that can be an experience in itself. But Centre Court is worth all the patience in the world. For the first four days of the tournament, tickets are comparable with Premier League football prices, if not cheaper. Have a glass of Pimm's, some of Wimbledon's famous strawberries, and round the day off with dinner in leafy Wimbledon Village, a 10-minute walk up the road, where curry house Thai Tho - reputedly a favourite of Maria Sharapova - is one of several excellent, affordable restaurants.

The second Wednesday is the last day on which Centre Court tickets go on general sale, and by this stage the action can take some beating. You should see two men's quarter-finals, if the tournament is on schedule, and that could mean watching Andy Murray in action. Again, you'll need to be prepared to queue a long time. After enjoying the tennis, exploring the grounds and availing yourselves of the champagne tent's fizz, enjoy a pre-tube outdoor dinner at The Original Fish and Chip Co near Southfields station on your way home, watching the tennis crowds flock by.

There'll be just a handful of change from that eye-watering sum for two special men's singles final tickets, with hospitality that includes access to a free champagne-stocked bar and a four-course Albert Roux-designed lunch, plus afternoon tea and a chauffeur car service. The hospitality, provided by a tournament partner, also includes a table visit from a tennis celebrity. There should be just enough left in the high-rollers' budget for a night in one of London's top hotels.
