Agnieszka Radwanska needed a little over an hour to see off CoCo Vandeweghe and reach the second round of the Connecticut Open on Monday.

Radwanska was a 6-0 6-2 winner in 65 minutes in New Haven as the seventh seed overwhelmed the WTA Rising Star.

"I started really well. Everything was just working for me today," Radwanska said on the WTA website. "I knew she was very dangerous, especially on the hardcourts here, so I was just focusing on every ball out there. And the first set was almost too fast, and I knew she was going to come back sooner or later in the match.

"But I was just doing everything right today, so I think that's why the score was like that."

Lucie Safarova, seeded fourth, beat Daria Gavilrova 6-3 6-4 but WTA Rising Stars were responsible for knocking out sixth seed Timea Bacsinszky and eighth seed Sara Errani.

Bacsinszky was beaten 6-3 6-1 by Carolina Garcia, while Errani went down 6-2 4-6 6-4 to Kristina Mladenovic.

Karolina Pliskova, the fifth seed, had to rally to beat Slovenian qualifier Polona Hercog 2-6 7-5 (7/5) 6-2.

There were also wins for Madison Keys, Alize Cornet, Roberta Vinci, Magdalena Rybarikova and Olga Savchuk.
