Amelie Mauresmo steps down as France's Fed Cup captain

Amelie Mauresmo has stepped down as captain of France's Fed Cup team after announcing she is expecting her second child.

The former world number one was coaching Andy Murray when she gave birth to son Aaron in August 2015, a role she left nine months later partly because of the demands of the tennis schedule.

Now Mauresmo is to leave her other tennis job, announcing the news the day after France's Fed Cup final defeat by the Czech Republic in Strasbourg.

The 37-year-old said on fft.fr: " I'm going to give birth in April 2017, and it's incompatible with the Fed Cup schedule.

"The first round is in February and the semi-final in April. I told the girls this morning. They did not know about it because I wanted them to be 100 per cent focused on the final. There was a lot of emotion, of course."
