Talking points from day four of Wimbledon

Wimbledon organisers were given reason to be cheerful on Thursday as the weather held off and a full day of play was possible.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at three of the big talking points.

Venus deserves some respect

Venus Williams is a five-time Wimbledon champion and one of the greatest players of her era. The schedule has been affected by rain and as the backlog was hacked away, her second-round game was posted on Court 18.

Williams refused to grumble, saying she would play anywhere so long as those rules applied to anyone and one wonders if one of the leading players on the men's tour will now be asked to do the same. As a starting point of levelling things out, Wimbledon promoted Williams to Court One for her Friday meeting with Daria Kasatkina.

Calm down temper temper

Dissent was at large on day four of the Championships, with Viktor Troicki and Gilles Simon both ranting. The latter was unhappy with the playing conditions on Court One, telling umpire John Blom he would "sue" him if he got injured, later going on to declare himself as "p***** (off)".

Troicki went one better. The Serbian was outraged by a decision by Damiano Torella and berated him as the "worst ever umpire in the world" and branded his call as "bull****". He can expect to hear more of the incident.

The Mighty Bouch

Eugenie Bouchard was brilliant as she made the 2014 Wimbledon final but since then she has lost her way a little. Form and fitness has been hard to come by and she found herself in the middle of a legal row with the United States Tennis Association after a locker-room slip at the US Open.

She is looking good at Wimbledon, though, and in comfortably beating British number one Johanna Konta on Centre Court, looks like she is ready to get back in the mix at the business end of tournaments.
