Svitolina saunters into quarters

Top seed Elina Svitolina marched into the quarter-finals of the Claro Open Colsanitas after powering to a straight sets win over Danka Kovinic in Bogota.

Svitolina took a firm hand on proceedings in the eighth game of the first set, winning seven games in a row to build up a 6-3 5-0 lead before eventually cruising to a 6-3 6-1 victory over her Montenegrin opponent.

The Ukrainian said on the WTA Tour website: "I'm really happy I could manage to win the first set, and that gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the match. I'm really happy with my performance."

Eighth seed Irina Falconi hit back from losing the first set to defeat Germany's Dinah Pfizenmaier, with the American coming through 5-7 6-2 6-3.

Lourdes Dominguez Lino, the 2006 and 2011 champion, ended the challenge of Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia as the Spaniard triumphed 7-6 (7/5) 6-0.

Maia's compatriot Teliana Pereira managed to book her spot in the last eight, though, after a 7-5 7-5 win over Luxembourg qualifier Mandy Minella.
