Stan Wawrinka the Viktor as he goes Through To St Petersburg Open Semi-finals

Top seed Stan Wawrinka maintained his unbeaten record against Viktor Troicki to reach the semi-finals at the St Petersburg Open.

Wawrinka defeated the Serbian for the sixth successive time to reach the last four with a 7-5 6-2 victory in 64 minutes.

The Swiss broke on the final point of the opening set before taking the last four games of the match, although he did have to save a couple of break points on his own serve.

Wawrinka will play Roberto Bautista Agut for a place in the final after the Spaniard overcame a slow start to fight back and win 4-6 6-1 6-2 against Joao Sousa.

The Czech hit six aces on his way to a 6-4 6-3 victory in 78 minutes and will now attempt to reach his first final of 2016, having lost at Wimbledon to eventual champion Andy Murray in his most recent semi-final appearance, when he faces Alexander Zverev in the last four.

Zverev was also a comfortable 6-2 6-2 winner against home-town favourite, and 2004 champion, Mikhail Youzhny.

At the Moselle Open, Dominic Thiem was on the receiving end of 16 aces but still defeated Gilles Muller 6-4 7-6 (7/5) to reach the semi-finals.

He will take on fourth seed Gilles Simon for a spot in the ATP World Tour 250 final after the Frenchman beat Malek Jaziri 7-6 (7/2) 6-0 in one hour and 40 minutes.

Second seed David Goffin continued his bid for a second title at the Moselle Open after beating Nicolas Mahut on Friday. The Belgian world number 14 needed just over two hours to knock out the home hope 6-3 6-7 (6/8) 6-4 and reach the semi-finals, where he will face another Frenchman, Lucas Pouille.

Pouille defeated compatriot Julien Benneteau 7-6 (7/2) 4-6 6-3.
