Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray once again in the men's singles final at the Australian Open on Sunday to record his 11th grand slam triumph.

The Scot, who is expected to become a father for the first time in the coming days, lost at that stage for the fifth time in Melbourne.

Here, Press Association Sport collates the best reaction on social media to Djokovic's straight-sets success.

"Hard lines @andy_murray. You will always be our champion! Now hurry home & enjoy becoming a dad! #AusOpen" - Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon focused on how Murray can console himself after the loss.

"@andy_murray is about as authentic a sports man as they come. His speeches always leave me a little teary. #ausopen" - broadcaster Gabby Logan was touched by the Briton's post-match speech on court when he mentioned his pregnant wife, Kim.

"Tears from @andy_murray talking about Kim, "a legend" last couple difficult weeks off court. Biggest joy of life around corner! Good luck!!" - two-time US Open champion Tracy Austin was also moved.

"I know @andy_murray will have his day in Melbourne. It's a pleasure to watch you play. Enjoy this special time with Kim & family. #AusOpen" - 12-time singles champion Billie Jean King stressed Murray can get over the hump Down Under.

Sturgeon was not the only Scot expressing support for Murray, with Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam adding: "Great speech from @andy_murray. Proud Scotsman. #class"

Murray also had support from one of his fellow players, with Australian Nick Kyrgios tweeting during the match: "Cmon Murray you God".

The 28-year-old had little sympathy from Lord Sugar, though, who noted Murray's poor form in the third set tie-break when he twice double faulted.

" Terrible tie break in the 3rd for Murray" - said a man who usually expresses such disappointment for his candidates on The Apprentice.

King also noted Djokovic's achievement of equalling Roy Emerson's sixth Australian Open title with the victory.

She wrote: "Congrats @DjokerNole on tying Roy Emerson with 6 #AusOpen titles! The standard you've set is incredible. I'm inspired. #11andcounting #peak"

Djokovic took to Twitter himself to celebrate his victory at a venue where over half of his 11 grand slam titles have come.

He said: "Great 2 weeks are behind us. Great job @AustralianOpen for making us feel at home. Congrats to @andymurray and his team. Keep up good work!"
