Bedene knocks out Youzhny to reach last 16 of Shenzhen Open

British number two Aljaz Bedene booked his place in the Shenzhen Open last 16 with a 6-3 6-3 win over Mikhail Youzhny.

Seventh seed Bedene's success on the Russian's second serve proved the difference as he secured a comfortable victory which sets up a meeting with Hyeon Chung, who eased to a 6-1 6-0 triumph against Di Wu.

Adrian Mannarino, seeded fifth, beat Lucas Pouille 6-0 6-3 while sixth seed Jiri Vesely also won in straight sets, 6-3 6-2 against Ze Zhang.

Eighth-seeded Victor Estrella Burgos fought back to defeat Matthew Ebden 4-6 7-6 (7/3) 6-4, Lukas Rosol was a 7-6 (7/4) 6-4 victor against Denis Istomin and Simone Bolelli enjoyed a 6-2 7-6 (7/2) triumph over Andreas Haider-Maurer.

In Tuesday's other first-round matches, Yan Bai beat Takuto Niki 6-1 7-5, Ricardas Berankis lost 6-4 6-3 to Hiroki Moriya and Zhizhen Zhang saw off Go Soeda 6-4 6-4.
