Andy Murray's grand slam final defeats

Andy Murray suffered a seventh grand slam final defeat on Sunday when he lost in the Australian Open to world number one Novak Djokovic.

It was the Scot's fifth defeat in the final at Melbourne, four of which have come against Djokovic in the past half-a-dozen years.

Here, Press Association Sport details the occasions two-time grand slam champion Murray fell just short.

2008 US OPEN FINAL (Lost 6-2 7-5 6-2 to Roger Federer)

A then 21-year-old Murray became the first Briton to reach a grand slam final since 1997, but Swiss master Federer cruised to a fifth successive US Open crown in straight sets.

2010 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FINAL (Lost 6-3 6-4 7-6 (13/11) to Roger Federer)

Two years on from the Flushing Meadows defeat Murray met Federer again Down Under and the most decorated tennis player of all time celebrated his 16th slam.

2011 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FINAL (Lost 6-4 6-2 6-3)

Even with the top two seeds Federer and Rafael Nadal already eliminated, Murray's wait for a maiden grand slim title went on as he came unstuck against Djokovic in Australia.

2012 WIMBLEDON FINAL (Lost 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4 to Roger Federer)

The most heart-breaking loss yet for the Scot, who was in tears addressing the home crowd after Federer came from a set down to clinch a seventh SW19 success.

2013 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FINAL (Lost 6-7 (2/7) 7-6 (7/3) 6-3 6-2 to Novak Djokovic)

Murray won his maiden slam at the US Open after his Wimbledon loss, yet, with that monkey off his back, a third straight final appearance at the major tournaments ended in another Melbourne loss to Djokovic.

2015 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FINAL (Lost 7-6 (7/5) 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 6-0 to Novak Djokovic)

For the first time in five years Murray failed to advance to a grand slam final in 2014 and there was a sense of deja vu when he returned to the big stage in Australia.

2016 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FINAL (Lost 6-1 7-5 7-6 (7/3) to Novak Djokovic)

Once more Djokovic proved to be too strong for Murray at the Rod Laver Arena as the Scot made it a quintet of Australian Open final losses.
